Self Study Options:

SIDS and Shaken Baby Training:
  1. Click on the Link http://www.smarthorizons.org/naccrra/thra/index2.html
  2. Enter Zip Code and click the button that says “GO”
  3. Select the “Individual Courses” tab
  4. Select “Professional Childcare Development 2 hours of training your choice” by clicking the green button that says “Customize Courses”.
  5. Scroll to the section “Safe and Healthy Learning Environment” find “Shaken Baby Syndrome and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome” and check the box.
  6. Scroll to the section “Principles of Child Growth and Development” and select either “Stages of Cognitive Development in Infants” or “Physical Development in Young Children” check the box of the course that you decide on.
  7. ADD to cart
  8. Check Out
  9. Once you have finished the course, you will be emailed a certificate that documents the training. Save this record for your child care licensing visits.
  10. Celebrate your accomplishment!

Engaging with Parents Self-Study:
  • Combines reading, reflection, and programming ideas
  • Gives you tools to develop partnerships with parents of the children in your program
  • Seven modules make up the self-study, each worth three hours for a total of 21 training hours
  • Cost for entire training is $75

    Offering First Aid classes in Ketchikan, Craig, Wrangell, and Juneau. To sign up for American Red Cross

UAF Early Childhood Education Programs:
    The University of Alaska Fairbanks College of Rural and Community Development
    early childhood education program provides students with a foundation in child development and         experience in nurturing young children.

    Program Overview
    Three degree options offer flexibility for your educational goals:

  1. A 30 credit certificate provides an introduction to the profession,
  2. A 60 credit A.A.S. degree prepares teachers for working with children,
  3. A 129 credit B.A degree offers concentrated Studies in administration, curriculum, and family support. Graduates of the BA are well prepared to continue their education for an elementary teaching degree through the education department.
